Before you choose your baby’s parents, you can speak with several hopeful adoptive parents. Sometimes, it’s nice to just get a bit more info to understand who they are and what they’re about.
I recently had the chance to interview hopeful adoptive parents Dan and Karin from New Mexico. So, I asked them some fun questions that you won’t find in their adoption profile.
I learned that they are a warm, adventurous couple who are excited to grow their family through an open adoption! As they put it, “Our family is comfortable with whatever level of communication you would prefer, and hope to encourage and love you as we all walk through life together.”
1. What Disney character are you like?
Karin: I know Dan’s! He’s like Buzz Lightyear because he gets the job done, but he’s also softened and brought out of his shell by those he trusts.
Dan: Well, Karin is like Belle. She likes to read, learn about new things, and sees beauty in people that maybe no one else can.
2. If you were a superhero, what power would you have?
Karin: I would want teleportation because it would be amazing to visit friends and family around the world at the snap of a finger.
Dan: (long pause)…yeah…that’s fine. Maybe reading minds? But that’s a bit invasive, so we’ll go with teleportation.
3. What’s your favorite TV Show or series?
Dan: Probably Agents of Shield, as we’ve watched it four or five times.
Karin: I agree, although I watched most of the second season of Bluey without our son when it came on Disney+.
4. What is a fun fact about you that usually surprises others to know?
Karin: I turned Dan down when he first asked me to pray about dating. I’d spent two years working with him, and knowing he was “off-limits,” and I couldn’t’ get past that. However, it did only take three days to change my mind.
5. As parents, what is something specific you want to teach your child?
Dan: The importance of spending time together as a family and enjoying each other. Specifically, as it pertains to work, I want them to know that family is ALWAYS more important than work. That only God is more important, and that by loving God first, I can love them better.
Karin: Yeah, that we will always take vacations and make time for family. And that we will love them forever, no matter what they do or choose…that love is a choice.
