You can learn about your open adoption choices.

There are 3 main choices women have in adoption. You can pick the adoptive parents, what contact looks like after the adoption, and how things go at the hospital. All of these things you can talk about before you ever decide if adoption is right for you.

We will send you links to parents ready to adopt for you to look at. We will send you a questionnaire about the hospital and future contact. These are all things that go into deciding if adoption is your choice. Whether you deliver at Bay Care Spring Hill or Oak Hill Hospital, we will coordinate everything for you.

Hernando County Adoption FAQ

Here are some questions we’ve answered recently for Hernando County pregnant moms and adoptive families. Got a question for us? Send us an email!

I’m 18 and pregnant and still at Brooksville High. Can I do adoption even though my parents think I should have an abortion?
Yes, you can make the choices for your pregnancy. We recently helped a 16-year-old at Hernando High who had similar questions, yet she could also still make the decisions even though she is still a minor. We can help you explain the options in adoption with your parents so they can understand that it can be a positive choice for you and your baby both now and in the future. Remember, we have free counseling for you and your parents can join you in that if you wish.
I’m embarrassed to admit it but I don’t know who the father of my baby is. I met a guy at Mermaids in Spring Hill and one thing led to another. Around the same time, I also was with a guy I met near the Red Mule. I didn’t think about getting pregnant and all I know are first names, not even a phone number. Can I do adoption without the baby’s father?
Yes. You will meet with an attorney at no cost to you who will take the necessary steps of attempting to notify an unknown or unlocatable birth father. They will even take care of it twice, since you aren’t sure who the father of your baby might be. Just be honest, give the lawyer any and all information you have, and he or she will take care of the rest.
I have a friend with a baby who is homeless and lives near the Weeki Wachee River. She is struggling and worried her baby will be removed from her care. I’d like to tell her about adoption. Does she need an address or anything to do adoption?
No, there is no requirement to have an address to place a child for adoption. If she doesn’t have a phone or email, we can come and take her to lunch at somewhere like Hardee’s or Cheddar’s in Weeki Wachee or even somewhere in Hernando Beach and explain the adoption process to her. We can bring info on families for her to look at and the paperwork if she is ready to take the next step. If she is more comfortable with you there, we are happy to have you too! There is no obligation after meeting with us.

I live out in Masaryktown. Can you come meet with me?
Yes, we can make an appointment and come and meet with you no matter where you live in Hernando County, from Masaryktown to Downtown Brooksville to Pine Island. Or, you are welcome to come to our office in New Port Richey, right on Congress St. near Indiana Ave.
How do I know adopting parents are safe?
All parents who adopt go through very complete background checks that include home inspections, FBI background investigations, medical and financial histories, and much, much more! A social worker will also visit every month after the adoption until the adoption is finalized. You have the chance to stay in touch with them and stay a part of your child’s life after the adoption. When getting started with the process, you can speak with one or more families, until you find the family that you want to choose for your child. And, if after speaking with a family you decide adoption isn’t right for you, that’s okay too!
I have been staying near Sims Park and I didn’t realize I was pregnant until a few weeks ago. I’ve partied quite a bit cuz I didn’t know I was pregnant. Will someone still want my baby?
Yes, we have families ready to adopt all babies, including those exposed to drugs or alcohol (as well as cigarettes or marijuana) during pregnancy. These families are prepared even if a baby needs to stay in the hospital longer to go through detox. We are happy to help you without any guilt or shame. It’s brave of you to ask that question and be open about what you’ve been doing. We will help you every step of the way.
